Change is good. With the change of the seasons comes a change in the landscape. What looked green is now yellow or brown, what was hidden by the leaves in the forest is now visible. I like the crisp air of autumn. For some reason the light casts a better golden hue, not just in the morning but all day. The haze of summer is gone and all colors look just a bit more saturated in fall. It's a great time to get into the woods or along a river to watch the animals and birds. Deer are a little more visible early in the morning or late in the day. Ducks and geese are moving more along migration routes. I was out shooting early the other day during the first frost, it's amazing what frost can look like when you really look. Try shooting with your telephoto lens and short depth of field, or a macro lens at its widest aperture. Throwing the background out of focus will make the frost have a greater impact. Look for patterns on the frost covered leaves. If you position yourself so that the subject is against a dark background, the subject will really pop off the frame. For deer pictures, look along the edges of open fields at dawn or dusk, try shooting from your car. Once a car door opens the deer seem to vanish.
